Village of New Athens was named a 2022 Tree City USA by Arbor Day Foundation to honor its commitment to effective urban forest management.

Village of New Athens achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements maintaining a tree board or department, having a tree care ordinance, dedicating an annual community forestry budge of at least $2 per capita, and hosting an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

April 29^th, 2023 will be a Tree City USA celebration 9:00AM-12:00PM at Okaw Valley Park/Marina.  Thanks to Trustee Debby Politsch for implementing this program and the Tree Board for all their work.
