SPOTSYLVANIA RESURFACING, CURB, GUTTER AND SIDEWALK INSTALLATION BEGINS
The Spotsylvania Street resurfacing project has been a challenge due primarily to inflation between the award of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DECO) grant and the bid letting. Estimates in 2021 were $585,000, total actual cost today is $1,325,000. A complicated process of combining two grants (DECO and an Illinois Department of Transportation grant ) with the blessing of the Federal Highway Administration was pursued and accomplished. There is still going to be a shortfall of over $455,000 that the village is going to have to fund.
Killian Construction was the successful bidder and construction officially started Tuesday, September 24, 2024. The contractual deadline for completing the contract is December 15, 2024, however, Killian is scheduling it to be completed before Thanksgiving.
The project consists of resurfacing approximately .95 mile of Spotsylvania and a small section of Benton Street along with installing new curb, gutting and sidewalks. The first step in the project will be the curbs, gutters and sidewalks. This is going to be a great improvement to the community and the 8” deep concrete gutters between Market and Van Buren will prevent the past flooding of that area”.
