On December 24, 2024, Sgt. Jake Renner responded to an active fire in a residence in the 200 block of N. Johnson Street.  Renner responded to the residence with his fire extinguishers and was advised by the homeowner that there was an active fire upstairs and his wife and three small children were still in the residence.  Renner evacuated the family members from the residence and went upstairs a second time to make sure everybody was evacuated.

Sgt. Renner with the assistance of an unknown neighbor quickly extinguished the flames which reached near the ceiling of the room.  Sgt, Renner’s breathing was impaired by the smoke and was given oxygen breathing treatments by Med-Star Ambulance Service EMS personnel.

Sgt. Renner’s selflessness and quick action upon this service call resulted in containing/extinguishing and active fire in a residence and securing the family from peril.

The village is grateful for our great police department, Police Chief Buehler leadership , our all-volunteer Fire Department and the professional services of Med-Star Ambulance.
